Calvin Pang is an art practitioner based in Singapore whose works comprise the ordinaries
in life, solitary interludes, and encounters with people. Along with his practice, he
documents his existence through photography, drawings and on occasion, words. This
series of photographs attempts to portray a desire for a journey faraway and the dreams of an
unknown destination which awaits. Pang believes his concept stems from a feeling of
'being displaced' during his growing-up years. A quote from Jeanette Winterson's Why
Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?
is cited for the inspiration behind these images:
"There is a lot that you can't change when you are a kid. But you can pack for the journey..."
